Former National Champions and TMS Dirt Track Champions advance to finals at Portacool Texas World Dirt Track Championship




A pair of former national champions and Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track champions highlighted the list of drivers advancing to Saturday’s finals at the Portacool Texas World Dirt Track Championship Friday.


 


In the Modified division, Jason Hughes, a former United States Modified Touring Series National Champion, finished third in the Modified A qualifier while two-time USMTS champion Ryan Gustin finished fifth to advance to Saturday’s final.


 


The winner of the Modified qualifier was Chase Allen from Midlothian, Texas who earlier in the evening was third in the Limited Modified A qualifier to advance to both finals tomorrow night.


 


The four other drivers advancing in the Modified’s included Triston Dycus (Alvarado, Texas) who was second and Clyde Dunn Jr. (Sunnyvale, Texas) who was fourth. Corey Babbitt (Houston) and Sean Jones (Mansfield, Texas) rounded out the top seven.


 


Dunn is a former winner at TMS as he won in October of 2003 at the track in the Modified division.


 


In the Limited Modified division, RJ Stroman of New Boston, Texas won the A Qualifier by 0.6 seconds over Jimmy Day (Greenville, Texas). The five other drivers advancing to Saturday’s championship race included Allen, Jeff Autry (Tuttle, Okla.), Craig Oakes (San Antonio), Nick Clinkenbeard (Weatherford, Texas) and Dennie Geiber (Frankston, Texas).


 


Geiber is a two-time winner at the Texas Motor Speedway Dirt Track after taking home titles in 2003 and 2012.


 


The Portacool Texas World Dirt Track Championship concludes Saturday as gates open at 5:30 with Hot Laps beginning at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.
