Ryan and the Gressel Racing team were in high gear this past weekend with the Lucas Oil MLRA racing in Iowa and Missouri. On Thursday, the Lee County Speedway in Donnellson fired up as the first venue of the swing before heading to the Davenport Speedway on Friday and Saturday at the Scotland County Speedway in Memphis, Mo.
Thursday was a disappointing first time out in the new Rocket Chassis with mechanical troubles ending Ryan's night early, but Friday's 2nd Annual Short Track Challenge in Davenport was a huge improvement. 'The Reaper' finished as the night's runner-up. He moved towards the middle of the track in the race's waning stages and marched forward. On the final lap, he had one last burst of speed and came up just short of Chris Simpson in a finish which brought the crowd to it's feet.
"The track was awesome, you could race all over it," Gustin shared. "It was a great night. This car was a hundred times better than what we had last night."
Lucas Oil MLRA and Scotland County Speedway officials jointly decided to cancel Saturday night's event in Memphis due to "the high likelihood of precipitation" in the afternoon.
