Saturday night at Springfield Raceway, Gressel Racing and Ryan Gustin returned to the place where we won earlier this season. After a tough heat race, Ryan won the B-Main which got him the 17th starting spot in the A-Main. The Reaper was impressive, but wound up two spots short of winning the Larry Phillips Memorial and finished third. Next up, it's the Fall Jamboree at Deer Creek.
Looney wins Larry Phillips Memorial
SPRINGFIELD, Mo. -- 2011 MARS champion Brad Looney of Republic, Mo., won at the Springfield Raceway for the Larry Phillips Memorial. Tony Jackson Jr. of Lebanon, Mo., got the most passing points from the heat races and sat on the pole for the 75-lap race. Jackson led early until Looney got by him on lap 21. The then switched between Looney and Terry Phillips of Springfield over the next several laps before Looney took control for good on lap 27. Looney’s car started to show signs of smoke on lap 52 as sparks were observed flying from the back of his car. Looney weathered cautions on laps 55, 57 and 58 and took the checkered flag just ahead of Jesse Stovall of Billings, Mo. Ryan Gustin, Jackson and Brandon McCormick rounded out the top five.
