MONETT, Mo. -- The United States Modified Touring Series rolled into the Monett Speedway for the 7th Annual USMTS Summer Shootout and the fourth round of the Hunt for the USMTS Casey’s Cup. And for the 61st time in four years, Ryan Gustin rolled out with the winner’s share of the prize money.
After winning his heat race on the fast 3/8-mile red clay oval, Gustin drew the pole position for the main event and led every lap en route to his second win of ‘The Hunt’ and 14th win overall this season.
Stormy Scott challenged Gustin in the late stages of the race, but was unable to make the pass and had to settle for his second runner-up finish in as many nights.
Rodney Sanders was third, Jeremy Payne finished fourth and multi-time track champion Johnny Bone Jr. rounded out the top 5.
Sixth through tenth, respectively, were Zack VanderBeek, Johnny Scott, Jason Hughes, Stephen Muilenburg and Jesse Stovall.
With four races in the books, Gustin sits atop the USMTS Casey’s Cup Series points standings with a 42-point cushion over Stormy Scott while Sanders is just an additional seven markers behind Scott. The rest of the top 10 spots are held by Johnny Scott, Hughes, Payne, Bryan Rowland, VanderBeek, Terry Phillips and Randy Timms.
