Grueling slate begins Tuesday--17 tracks in 19 days

BRANDON, S.D. -- Six straight events in the Great Plains Region are on tap this week as the rugged USMTS road warriors embark on their most grueling stretch of races this week with 17 nights of racing over the course of 19 days.

What most race tracks and/or series do in a single season, the USMTS National Tour pounds into one month, beginning at the popular Huset’s Speedway in Brandon, S.D., on Tuesday, June 7, for the first of 12 straight nights of competition.

Kelly Shryock visited victory lane in the first two installments at the Huset’s Speedway in 2006 and 2007. Al Hejna emerged victorious in 2008, Jason Krohn was the winner in 2009 and Ryan Gustin is the defending champion of the event.

Gates open at 5 p.m. with hot laps at 7 and racing at 7:30.

The Huset's Speedway is located east of Brandon on I-90 to Exit 406, then 2.5 miles south on SR 11. For more information, call the track office at 605-582-3819 or the track hotline on race day at 605-582-3536 or check out www.husets-speedway.com on the World Wide Web.

After racing at the high-banked 3/8-mile bullring, drivers will trek north on Wednesday and battle at the Red River Valley Speedway in Fargo, N.D., where Ken Schrader picked up his first ever USMTS win last season.

On Thursday the series will move south to the Casino Speedway in Watertown, S.D., then back to the north again with the second visit in as many seasons to the Brown County Speedway in Aberdeen, S.D., before rolling back to Don Gumke’s Jamestown Speedway in Jamestown, N.D., which has produced some of the best USMTS action in the past

Sunday, June 11, will see the series make its first of two appearances at the Nobles County Speedway in Worthington, Minn., and then on Monday the series will make its way back into the Hawkeye State for a visit to the Mineral City Speedway in Fort Dodge.

Both of these last two races will also feature the popular Iron Man Challenge for USRA Karl Chevrolet Stock Cars and USRA Karl Performance Parts B-Mods.

On Tuesday, the USMTS National Tour will move to the north for a stop at Joe Ringsdorf’s Fairmont Raceway in Fairmont, Minn., before a move back to the east at the Cresco Speedway in Cresco, Iowa.

From there, it’s off to Wisconsin for the final three stops of this swing before the drivers and crews get a well-deserved couple of days to catch their collective breath.

The first-ever visit to the Central Wisconsin Speedway in Unity, Wis., takes place on Thursday, June 16, before making a much-anticipated return to the Cedar Lake Speedway in New Richmond, Wis., for two straight nights of $2,000-to-win racing action.

While off for two days, be sure to check out Apple River which is right by the Cedar Lake Speedway – a good way to spend your first day off relaxing and floating down the river with a few cold ones.

Racing action returns with a visit to the I-35 Speedway in Mason City, Iowa, on Tuesday, June 21, and then moves to the Buena Vista Raceway in Alta, Iowa, on Wednesday for the annual “Battle at The Beaver.”

Thursday will find the USMTS Modifieds back at the Park Jefferson Speedway in Jefferson, S.D., before the final two nights of action at the Rapid Speedway in Rock Rapids, Iowa, on Friday, June 24, with the final trek back to the north and the final stop of the grueling month of June at the newly-configured North Central Speedway in Brainerd, Minn.
