Friday fog forces USMTS doubleheader Saturday at Royal Purple Raceway

BAYTOWN, Texas -- Night 2 of the inaugural Texas Spring Nationals will now be “day 2” as thick fog rolled up from the Gulf of Mexico Friday evening and planted itself atop the Royal Purple Raceway, forcing USMTS officials to postpone the program.

Drivers in the USMTS Casey’s General Stores National Tour powered by Swan Energy will now face off in a doubleheader Saturday, with two complete programs on tap.

Friday’s foggy show will happen Saturday afternoon with gates opening at noon and the first heat race at 2:30. A complete show of heat races, “B” mains and “A” mains are on tap.

Following the main event, race officials will bring out the heavy equipment and completely re-work the racetrack to give drivers and fans a fresh surface for the second half of the day’s doubleheader, which is slated to start around 7:30 p.m.

USMTS Modified drivers will be battling for $2,000 to win the first feature in the afternoon and $3,000 to win the nightcap. Limited Mods will also be running for $700 and $1,000 to win, respectively.

A field of 77 USMTS Modifieds and 36 Limited Mods were already signed in Friday, so event organizers are expecting even more entries for the Saturday doubleheader.
