BARBERVILLE, FL - Feb. 9, 2011 - Racing legend Sammy Swindell powered to victory Wednesday night in the Sprint Car opener at the 40th Annual DIRTcar Nationals By University of Northwestern Ohio at Volusia Speedway Park.
Swindell weaved to the front and worked past Kraig Kinser to grab the lead on Lap 7 of the 30-lap main event. Then the three-time World of Outlaws champion held off teammate Craig Dollansky to the checkered flag. Rising star David Gravel was third followed by Daryn Pittman and Greg Wilson.
NASCAR superstar Clint Bowyer started on the outside pole of the DIRTcar UMP Modified feature event that followed the Sprint Car race and held off Ken Schrader for the first victory of his career at Volusia Speedway Park. Schrader tried to close the gap on a green-white-checkered finish but had to settle for second with Joey Kramer third followed by Richard Childress Racing's Austin Dillon with Jason Miller rounding out the top five.
